Summary of Human Health Data Requirements
for Ingredients of the Mosquito Adulticide Spray for West Nile Virus
The U.S. EPA has completed phase 3 of a 6 phase public process to
reevaluate the registration of pyrethrins
and piperonyl butoxide (PBO)
for use in pesticides. The preliminary risk assessments indicate
new areas of concern and the need for additional data.
OPP-2005-0043-0003 Overview of the
Pyrethrins Risk Assessment, U.S. EPA, April 27, 2005
Human Health Data Requirements
The following toxicology … data are being requested to support the
registration of pyrethrins:
- A developmental neurotoxicity study is required.
- A comparative thyroid study is required.
OPP-2005-0042-0003 Piperonyl Butoxide
Overview, U.S. EPA, May 4, 2005
Human Health Data Requirements
The following product and residue chemistry data are required to
support the registration of piperonyl butoxide:
Product Chemistry
- Product chemistry data as listed in the Product Chemistry Chapter
is needed for TGAI of PBO.
Residue Chemistry
- …. Further analytical work to upgrade the previously
submitted oral metabolism studies with ruminant and poultry.
Representative egg, milk, and tissue samples from the dermal or oral
ruminant/poultry metabolism studies must be analyzed … to determine
whether the method(s) adequately recover Piperonyl butoxide residues of
concern. Data are under review.
